Chelsea are among the teams who can sign Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy by using a “special exit clause” this summer, according to reports.
Sky Germany claims that the Blues, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid can trigger the option if they want to buy the Frenchman.
Guirassy has caught the eye this season since moving from Stuttgart last year, having scored 29 times in all competitions for Dortmund.
He was only signed for €18m due to another buyout clause, but Sky don’t disclose what fee would be needed to prise him away from his current team.
Guirassy’s age would count against him
It should be pointed out that the forward turned 29 last month so that suggests an approach from Chelsea is unlikely.
The Blues have shown with the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo that they are willing to sign players in their late twenties.
However, they are reluctant to pay big fees for stars who have no sell-on value. That means that Guirasssy’s release fee would have to be very low for Enzo Maresca’s side to be interested.
Chelsea could trigger another striker’s release clause
Based on recent reports, it does seem more likely that the Blues will make a move for Ipswich’s Liam Delap. Now that his team’s relegation has been all but confirmed, he is available for £30m.
The fact that the former Manchester City player has scored 17 goals fewer than Guirassy is not expected to put them off from making an offer.
Speaking about Delap in an exclusive interview with Chelsea News last week, Chris Sutton said he would even sign him over Victor Osimhen, which is a ringing endorsement. It remains to be seen whether the club can win the race for the Ipswich player’s signature.
