Chelsea have “discussed” Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz as an option to strengthen their frontline, according to GiveMeSport.
The Brazilian had an impressive second half of the season for the Cottagers, scoring 9 league goals, and he is attracting interest from the Blues.
Muniz joined from Flamengo in 2021 but he initially struggled to make an impact in England, playing a bit-part role as Fulham were promoted to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old was then loaned out to Middlesbrough for the 2022/23 season but he, again, found game time hard to come by.
Muniz’s fortunes, however, changed when Raul Jimenez suffered a hamstring injury, and he ended last campaign as Fulham’s first-choice striker.
Shearer is a big fan of the forward
After Muniz bagged a brace in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth back in February, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer Alan Shearer lavished praise on the player:
“He really was a handful. Tough to play against, horrible to play against in fact. That’s always a good thing for a centre-forward, that’s what you have to be.”
“He was strong, he ran the channels, he brought players into the game and he really upset the Bournemouth defenders in every way, in everything he was doing.”
Muniz is just one option that Chelsea are looking at
Deals for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion have hit the rocks, but GiveMeSport claims that the Blues are still focused on recruiting a new No.9.
In addition to Muniz, it is believed Enzo Maresca’s side hold a strong interest in Lille’s Jonathan David. The Canadian international has a year left on his contract and could be available for as little as £21m.
However, at least three other Premier League clubs are pursuing the forward, including Manchester United, West Ham and Tottenham.
