Leboeuf Excited By Chelsea Plans To Sign £43M Rated Playmaker Who “Can Do Everything”

Ex-Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf says his former club would be getting one of the most talented players “on earth” if they snap up Rayan Cherki from Lyon.

The Blues are thought to be weighing up a move for the playmaker but, even though Leboeuf says he is a massive fan of his fellow countryman, he is concerned by his lack of experience:

“Skill-wise, one of the best players already on earth. 20 years old, unbelievable. The guy can do everything. But he still has to improve and is young. When he has to get rid of the ball, it’s always half a second too early or half a second too late. I have no doubt that he’s going to improve. I think it’s a good investment, but I’m not sure he’s the kind of player Chelsea needs right now. They need experienced players. They don’t need the future. They need the present.”

It is believed that Lyon are reluctant to lose one of their best players, but it has been reported in France that they could be open to selling for around €50m (£43m).

Chelsea have a longheld interest in Cherki

The London club’s pursuit of the 19-year-old has not come out of the blue. Back in December last year, it was claimed that they were keeping an eye on the player, along with teammates Malo Gusto and Castello Lukeba.

At the start of this month, reports began to circulate that the Blues were considering whether to step up their interest in Cherki. It has now also emerged that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have held talks with the player’s entourage.

Other attacking midfielders are being considered

In addition to Cherki, Chelsea are known to hold an interest in Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga. The Spaniard would be cheaper as he has a €40m (£34m) release clause, but there could be more competition for his signature as well.

At the moment, it appears that Cherki is the favoured option and, based on Leboeuf’s comments, supporters should be excited by the prospect of the Frenchman’s arrival.
