Raheem Sterling’s future is uncertain as he is unwanted at Chelsea following last summer when he was in Enzo Maresca’s ‘bomb squad’.
Sterling was told by the Chelsea manager that he needed to seek a move last summer, and he ended up finding a loan move to London rivals Arsenal. It hasn’t been a great year for the English winger though, he’s made just 15 Premier League appearances with no goals to his name.
After not being wanted at Chelsea and a poor loan spell at Arsenal, Sterling’s future remains very uncertain. He will come back to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and he still has two years left on his deal at Chelsea.
With that in mind, the Blues are likely to sell the 30-year-old, but the question is, where will he go? Former Arsenal striker Paul Merson predicted on Sky Sports News what would happen to the winger.
He said: “If I was a Leeds United, I would be looking at Raheem. He’s experienced, they’re a young team Leeds, they like to play attacking football, he’s very good in the dressing room, a good team player. For me that wouldn’t be a bad move for Leeds and for Raheem Sterling.
“The expectations are not as high, if they finish 17th in the league next year Leeds, they’ve pulled up trees, so that wouldn’t be a bad one for me, he’s got all the experience in the world, that would be one that would tick the box for me.”
How much could Chelsea sell Sterling for?
According to TransferMarkt, Sterling is worth just £13 million, meaning that the Blues don’t have too much financial incentive to sell him, apart from his high salary of £325,000 per week.
They would save significantly on his wage bill, and so could even be prepared to sell him for virtually nothing, as most teams would feel spending big on Sterling is a risk.
A smaller Premier League club would be ideal for the winger, as he can re-ignite his career after poor spells both with Chelsea and the Gunners.
