‘We Are In The Process’ Chelsea Boss Addresses Transfer Speculation As Pressure Mounts

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has addressed the fans’ concerns regarding the Blues’ lack of quality attacking options in a an interview featured on TalkSPORT [via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter].

In the current transfer window, Chelsea have spent roughly £217 million – however, their squad is still full of holes and positions without a depth in quality. They have shelled out on big money deals for players such as Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku.

With that being said, several players have also left the club for significant fees in the summer. These departures include Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic. Other key players, such as Cesar Azpilicueta and N’Golo Kante, have also made the jump away from Stamford Bridge.

In the interview, Pochettino said: “It is not easy in this moment to find the right profile. We are in the process, working to see if we can add some players in this area. For sure, they are working really hard to add some players.”

Which positions do Chelsea need to strengthen?

Currently, we feel that there are four positions that Chelsea still need to bolster – goalkeeper, right-back, left wing and centre-forward.

Some of these positions need strengthening due to injury, while others simply need more depth in quality. The striker position, in particular, is a role that the Blues have been struggling with for significant period of time.

They brought in Christopher Nkunku to cover the striker role and to provide an option out wide, but unfortunate circumstances have led to him being ruled out of action for several months with an injury.

Additionally, players such as Carney Chukwuemeka, Reece James and backup ‘keeper Marcus Bettinelli have also been struck down with injuries.

Who could they bring in to sort out these problems in the squad?

Currently, there isn’t a specific target that Chelsea seem to be chasing in any one position. Instead, they are adopting a scattergun approach for the time being.
