Omari Kellyman will be loaned out by Chelsea during the January transfer window, according to Football.London.
The teenager was signed from Aston Villa for £19m at the start of July but he has yet to make his first-team debut for the Blues.
Kellyman has been given run-outs for the Under 21s but a hamstring problem has limited his appearances so far this season.
The player confirmed at the beginning of September that he had suffered an injury setback and it has since been reported that he will be sidelined for up to two months.
Football.London claim Kellyman is hopeful that he will return to fitness at some point in November.
Why are Chelsea loaning out the midfielder?
When he returns to full training later this year, it’s unlikely that Kellyman will get any game time for the first team due to competition for places.
The 19-year-old is expected to feature in more games for the Under 21s but the club don’t believe his long-term development will benefit from playing at that level for the rest of the season.
Kellyman is a highly-rated young player and he needs to gain first-team experience. A loan is, therefore, seen as the best option for all parties.
Will other players be leaving in January?
Despite making his first appearance of the season against Barrow in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, Ben Chilwell is expected to be offloaded, unless he manages to get back into Enzo Maresca’s plans between now and the New Year.
There has also been more speculation about Mykhailo Mudryk. Following the arrivals of Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho over the summer, the Ukrainian has found himself part of the “mid-week” group, playing domestic cup games and Conference League fixtures.
At the moment, Mudryk is set to stay at Stamford Bridge but things could change between now and January.
