A player swap involving Chelsea and Man United is unlikely to go ahead due to a sizeable difference in the valuations of Nicolas Jackson and Alejandro Garnacho, according to reports.
The Independent claim that the Blues are demanding upwards of £80m for Jackson, while they are only willing to pay in the region of £30m for Garnacho.
Neither price is deemed acceptable to United, and it means there is a major “obstacle” in the way of a potential player exchange.
Jackson is not ‘up for sale’ per se, but like with Noni Madueke, there is a feeling that Enzo Maresca’s side will listen to offers for the Senegalese international.
After being sent off in the Club World Cup against Flamengo, Maresca opted to play Liam Delap or Joao Pedro in the no.9 role, leaving Jackson on the bench following his return from suspension. As things stand, he is unlikely to have a key role next season.
What is the situation with Garnacho?
Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano believes the Argentinian international remains a live target for Chelsea, and he claimss that a bid could be made for the player in August once deals for Xavi Simons and Jorrel Hato are wrapped up.
If Jackson is not offered up to United, then any formal offer would also depend on departures of other players, including the likes of Raheem Sterling, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka, Armando Broja and Ben Chilwell.
Chelsea do need to strengthen the left flank
Jadon Sancho’s departure and Mykhailo Mudryk’s suspension means Jamie Gittens is the only recognised left winger in the first team squad.
While players like Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro can cover in that position, it is not their preferred role, so in that context, you can see why there is still interest in Garnacho.
