Chelsea Complete Sale Of £28 million Defender Where Will The Funds Be Spent?

19 year-old full back Lewis Hall has completed a move from Chelsea to Newcastle for £28 million. Lewis Hall spent last season on loan at Newcastle where he made 18 Premier League appearances.

Newcastle decided that they wanted to make his loan move permanent which is complete after agreeing to a £28 million fee with Chelsea.

This profit will be vital for the Blues as they look to avoid the pressures of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules which have been bearing down on the club since the end of the financial year.

It will be interesting to see how Chelsea use the funds given their recent signings of Aston Villa’s Omari Kellyman, Palmeiras attacker Estevao Willian and the free-agent signing of Fulham’s English defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The Blues are linked with a move for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as they continue to target young players from around the world.

Lewis Hall, an academy graduate, only made 12 professional appearances for Chelsea but his sale provides invaluable funds to help balance the transfer kitty. Hall did become a mainstay in the Blues’ U21s side so has solid pedigree.

His loan move to Newcastle was what the 19 year-old needed to make a breakthrough in his career which has been realised after Eddie Howe decided to sign him permanently.

How does Hall feel about the move?

The lifelong Magpies fan took to social media to express his joy after the move was confirmed. He said: “I am extremely proud to be able to build on last season and continue my journey at Newcastle United.

“When you pull on the black and white shirt, there is no feeling like it playing in front of the best supporters in the country is extra special for me, being a Toon fan.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

How will the Chelsea product fit into Newcastle’s team?

The defender primarily plays as a left back also making him useful as an attacking wing back but can additionally play in centre midfield and left midfield.

Eddie Howe likes to play four at the back normally meaning that Hall is able to play in his natural position. He will link up with former Everton player and current England international Anthony Gordon in what could become a long term partnership down the left hand side for the Magpies.
