Chelsea are “interested” in signing Nottingham Forest defender Murillo, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.
The journalist was speaking to his website CFBayernInsider.com about Bayern Munich’ pursuit of the Brazilian international when he mentioned that the Blues may also get involved in the race for the player’s signature:
“Bayern can imagine bringing the 23-year-old centre-back into the squad. However, his transfer fee won’t be an easy one for FC Bayern. We suspect it’ll be over €50m [£43.5m] that they would have to pay, but one advantage is that he doesn’t have a particularly high salary at the moment, so he would fit well into the Bayern squad.”
“Bayern, however, are not alone; I heard that Chelsea are also interested. Nonetheless, he could be a good option for Bayern Munich.”
Murillo is a Premier League proven centre-back
Since moving from Corinthians to the City Ground for €15m in the summer of 2023, the defender has caught the eye with his performances.
Murilo won Forest’s Player of the Season during his first 12 months at the club, and he was also integral to helping Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finish in 7th place on 65 points last campaign.
Responding to a post on Instagram after a game against Tottenham back in December last year, then teammate Anthony Elanga labelled him as a “monster”.
Maresca has been calling on Chelsea to reinforce the backline
Following Levi Colwill’s ACL injury back in August, head coach Enzo Maresca made it clear in no uncertain terms that he wanted a new centre-half brought in.
However, the recruitment team did not heed his calls and he has had to make do with what he has got. Based on Falk’s information, the Blues may well give Maresca what he desires by pursuing Murillo either in January or next summer.
