Chelsea Have Made Contact With The Agent Of Keeper Who Man City ‘Tried’ To Sign In January

Chelsea have held talks with the entourage of Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar, according to reports in Italy.

Website TMW claim that the Blues and Bayern Munich have made contact with the Serbian international’s representatives.

Svilar has been one of the standout performers for the Giallorossi in what has been a pretty difficult season for the Serie A side.

They have had three separate managers over the course of the campaign, with Claudio Ranieri having returned for a third spell in the dugout back in November.

What do fans need to know about Svilar?

The shot-stopper was born in Belgium and he came through Anderlecht’s academy before moving to Benfica at a young age in the summer of 2017.

Svilar played most of his football for the B team during his five years with the Portuguese side, making just a handful of first-team appearances. He left to join Roma on a free transfer before the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

After initially being brought in to be the understudy for Rui Patricio, the Serbian established himself as first choice midway through last season.

Chelsea are not the only Premier League club who have shown an interest

TMW report that Manchester City “tried” to sign Svilar during the January transfer window but Roma rebuffed the approach with the club’s sporting director Florent Ghisolfi stating he is the “future” of the club.

They had plans to hand him a contract extension but negotiations over a new deal appear to have stalled. The keeper is said to be demanding around €4m a year (£65,000 a week) which would quadruple his current salary. That sort of wage would not be a problem for Chelsea.

At the moment, no bid is imminent for Svilar but it is definitely a transfer story to keep a close eye on over the coming weeks.
