Club To Decide ‘In The Next Few Days’ After Chelsea AND PL Rival ‘Make Proposals’ For £21.4M Brazilian Ace

Chelsea and Crystal Palace have both made “proposals” for Flamengo attacking midfielder Matheus Franca, according to Globo Esporte.

The Brazilian sports news outlet claims that Flamengo will make a decision on whether to accept the offers “in the next few days”.

It has been widely reported that Chelsea were interested in Franca, but the news that Palace have also decided to enter the running does complicate matters.

Globo Esporte say that Eagles shareholder John Textor is the main man driving their interest in the midfielder. The American businessman is said to be a “fan” of the player and he even tried to sign him for his other club, Lyon.

How much do Flamengo want for Franca?

It is believed that the Brazilian side are demanding €25m (£21.4m) for the 19-year-old but the expectation is that Chelsea and Palace will meet the asking price.

Representatives of the player actually went to London last week in order to hear out the proposals of the two teams, which suggests both clubs are confident about agreeing a fee.

Will the player choose Chelsea over Palace?

A lot does depend on whether Franca is prepared to wait for his chance to play first-team football. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are expected to loan out the Brazilian youth international for next season if he does decide to move to Stamford Bridge.

In contrast, Palace are offering the player regular starts straight away. Globo Esporte claims that Franca “wants to play in the Premier League” so, at this stage, you would have to say that the Eagles are the favourites, as long as they can match Chelsea’s offer.

Nothing is set in stone yet, though, but it appears we will get more news by the start of next week when Flamengo have had time to consider the bids that have been placed.
