Ex-Chelsea defender Robert Huth says his former club should re-sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer.
The Blues sold the 23-year-old to the Eagles for £18m three years ago but, speaking to Gambling.com, Huth said that Guehi has all the attributes to be a top defender@
“He (Marc Guehi) has been outstanding. There’s not a lot ‘not to like’ about his game. His positioning is excellent, he’s got an excellent turn of pace. He’s good on the ball, and he’s basically everything that you want in a centre back.”
“Maybe he could be a bit more physical, just in terms of being bigger, but I’ve not seen him struggle against anyone. I’d be interested to see how they are going to go about it, because he would be perfect for Chelsea.”
Chelsea are in the market for a centre-half
Enzo Maresca’s side are clearly keen on reinforcing the middle of defence. They have held talks with Nottingham Forest about signing Murillo.
However, some reports have put the Brazilian’s asking price as high as £70m. Ironically, Guehi may be sold by Palace for less than that, with his valuation said to be between £55m and £65m.
Guehi is being pursued by other Premier League teams
Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been linked with the England international over the past few months and his performances at the European Championships will likely tempt some of these clubs into tabling an offer once the tournament is over.
Huth believes Chelsea should get into the mix and many would agree with him. The club are believed to want a left-sided centre-half, and while Guehi is right-footed, he has spent most of his career playing on the left-hand side. The Blues’ recruitment department are not exactly known for making logical decisions, though, so we shall see if they do consider making a bid.
