Chelsea are one of three Premier League teams who could make a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Englishman (who has been capped 23 times by his country) is out of contract at the end of next season and he is unlikely to sign a new deal with the Eagles.
Romano says that the Blues, Tottenham and Newcastle are “all keen” on purchasing Guehi, who could be available for a knockdown price when the transfer window opens.
Palace are aware that there is a danger of the centre-back leaving on a free transfer next year so a departure over the coming months is looking increasingly likely.
Chelsea are willing to pay £50m for the player
Earlier this month, The Mirror reported that Enzo Maresca’s side are ready to shell out £50m on Guehi, as well as including Trevoh Chalobah as part of the move.
It remains to be seen how accurate that story is. Chalobah has been in very good form in recent games and his departure to Palace on a permanent basis would be a surprise decision.
Considering Guehi’s contract situation as well, it would be hoped that a deal could be reached for a much lower price.
Guehi could return 4 years after leaving Stamford Bridge
If the 24-year-old is snapped up by Chelsea, it would mark his return to the club where he came through the youth ranks.
Guehi joined from Cray Wanderers as a 7-year-old in 2007 and remained with the Blues until he was sold to Palace for £18m in the summer of 2021.
No buyback clause was included in the agreement, which means that Maresca’s team will not get any preferential treatment if and when they enter talks with the Eagles.
