Chelsea are set to sign centre-back Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, according to reports.
The Telegraph claim that the Blues have “agreed a deal” for the 19-year-old defender, who will cost in the region of €13m to €15m (£11m-£13m).
Sarr only made the move to Strasbourg from Lyon back in August last year but the Blues have already seen enough to be convinced that he can play in the Premier League.
The teenager won’t make the switch to Stamford Bridge straight away though. The Telegraph say he will stay at Strasbourg until the end of the season before joining up with his new team.
What do fans need to know about Sarr?
The centre-half was born in France to parents of Senegalese descent and he came through the youth ranks of ES Saint-Laurent-Blangy and Lens before joining Lyon on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.
Sarr made his senior debut against Stade de Reims at the end of the 2022/23 season before he was loaned out to RWD Molenbeek the following January. He spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign playing in the Belgian Pro League, making ten appearances in total.
Last summer, he sealed a €10m move to Blueco feeder club Strasbourg where he has played 13 games in all competitions so far.
Chelsea could sign another centre-back this summer
Sarr is unlikely to be the only addition to the backline during the next transfer window. The Blues were weighing up a move for Marc Guehi this month.
However, it has now been reported by multiple sources that their bid will be delayed until the end of the campaign. The 24-year-old will be in the final year of his contract in July and he is likely to be available for a much lower transfer fee.
