Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring one of his former players, Leandro Paredes, to Stamford Bridge, according to the Evening Standard.

The pair worked together for a season at Paris Saint-Germain, and Pochettino is hoping to reunite with his fellow countryman.

Paredes is now 29 years of age, and Pochettino is said to be looking to bolster his midfield with some experience before the transfer window closes.

Currently, the oldest midfielder in the first-team squad is Conor Gallagher who is 23. Over the last six months, the Blues have lost the likes of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Denis Zakaria, so it is felt that bringing in Paredes would redress the balance somewhat.

Chelsea have tried to sign Paredes before

The Blues were all set to sign the Argentine during the 2019 January transfer window when he was still at Zenit St Petersburg.

However, the move was hijacked by Paris Saint-Germain, and Paredes has spent the last four and a half years with the Ligue One side.

Paredes will be available on the cheap

Despite being a World Cup winner, PSG are believed to be keen to offload the player before the window shuts at the start of next month.

Paredes spent last season out on loan at Juventus and, after returning to the Parc des Princes, he is not part of the club’s plans for the new season. With the midfielder also having less than a year left on his contract, he is not expected to cost a great deal either.

Chelsea do have a policy of signing young players but they may make an exception here. Pochettino has expressly asked for more experience in the middle of the park and the fact that he knows Paredes well would suggest that the Blues will cede to his wishes.
