Chelsea have joined Juventus in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper claims that the Blues have “come forward” to signal their interest in the German international, and they are expected to be the main “threat” for Juve if the Serie A side also decide to pursue the player.
Adeyemi is left-footed, and he can be deployed as a striker or on either flank. Based on his profile, you would assume that he is being looked at as a potential alternative to Michael Olise.
The Frenchman officially completed his £50m move to Bayern Munich at the weekend, having been a key target for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Adeyemi didn’t have a great season at Dortmund
It has been a difficult twelve months for the striker, who only scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in 34 appearances last campaign.
There were some mitigating circumstances. Adeyemi spent two months out with ankle ligament and muscular injuries, which meant he started just 10 league games in total. However, he was a regular starter as Dortmund made it to the Champions League final.
Since joining from Red Bull Salzburg for €30m in the summer of 2022. he hasn’t really managed to set the world alight, but it should be emphasised that he is still only 22 years of age.
Are Chelsea looking at any other forwards?
It is believed that the Blues do still retain an interest in Samu Omorodion but any deal will be tough to complete with Atletico Madrid reportedly holding out for £70m.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel have been mentioned as potential alternatives but there is still a chance that the club won’t sign a new no.9 at all this summer, which will disappoint the majority of supporters.
