Brighton attacking midfielder Julio Enciso is “on his way to London” to complete his move to Strasbourg and (eventually) Chelsea, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on his X account, Romano said that the plan for the Paraguayan international is to initially play in France before returning to Stamford Bridge.
At the moment, it is expected that Enciso will stay with Strasbourg for a year, but a lot may depend on his performances under the guidance of Liam Rosenior.
The 21-year-old will sign a six-year deal with Blueco after undergoing a medical, with his contract set to run to the end of the 2030/31 season.
This is the 15th addition from Brighton since 2022
The Seagulls have been raided for managers, coaches, recruitment staff, and players on numerous occasions since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought Chelsea three years ago.
Before the Enciso deal, the Blues spent £60m to sign Joao Pedro, who had been recommended to the club by Sam Jewell. He was Brighton’s Head of Scouting before leaving to become Blueco’s Director of Professional Football in 2024.
Chelsea continue to stockpile talent
The decision to pay £15m for Enciso is somewhat surprising, considering he wasn’t even playing regularly for Brighton. He had been loaned out to Ipswich Town for the second half of last season so he could get first-team football.
During his time at Portman Road, the Paraguayan played 13 games, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists, but he could not help prevent the Tractor Boys from being relegated.
Despite his mediocre performances, Chelsea still feel he has potential. Enciso only turns 22 at the start of next year. The hope is that he can develop his game at Strasbourg before returning to Stamford Bridge, where he can then begin to contribute to Enzo Maresca’s squad.
