“I Can See Him Going To Chelsea” – Sagna Backs Blues To Sign 89 Cap German Star Who Is Available For £25M

Chelsea should consider making a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, according to Bacary Sagna.

The German international has a year left on his contract and reports suggest that he will leave the Allianz Arena this summer. Speaking to Paddy Power, Sagna said Kimmich would be a good addition to Enzo Maresca’s squad, as he can dictate play in the middle of the park:

“I can see him going to Chelsea. They don’t hold the ball well enough, and [last season] it was a bit of a yo-yo system.”

“They need to keep control and set the right tempo and Kimmich can do that. When he has to attack fast, he can do that and when he needs to slow it down, he can do that too.”

Kimmich’s asking price is pretty reasonable

Due to the 29-year-old’s contract situation, it is believed that Bayern could let the player leave for between €30m (£25m) and €40m (£34m).

Signing a player with 89 international caps for that price could represent good business for Chelsea, who don’t have a great deal of experience in the squad.

Chelsea would have to overcome two key obstacles

Kimmich is currently earning €375,000 (£317,000) a week at Bayern and, considering what we know about the Blues’ wage structure, it’s unlikely that the club would be willing to offer the midfielder the same salary as he is currently getting.

Another major hurdle is the player has made it clear that he wants to play for one of five teams – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal or Liverpool.

Out of those, City are the only club who are said to be genuinely interested in Kimmich so, if Chelsea do make an approach, they may have a tough time persuading him to join them ahead of the Premier League champions.
