Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in signing Jonathan David on a free transfer, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
The Canadian international is set to leave Lille when his contract expires this summer and Ornstein claims that the Blues are among his admirers, along with several other teams. David has been in excellent scoring form this campaign, having found the back of the net 20 times in all competitions, and the majority of fans on X would be keen for him to make the switch to Stamford Bridge:
Wouldn’t mind it especially on a free. Could be a baller for us.

I would prefer Delap, but both could be good for us. Can see him in a Liverpool shirt next season.

Chelsea will have competition for the striker
Ornstein says that Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur Aston Villa are also “among the sides who rate him” while Juventus, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are keen on snapping up David as well as Arsenal being linked by some outlets.
The 25-year-old can already hold talks with clubs outside France in view to signing a pre-contract agreement but he hasn’t made a decision on his future yet.
David is not a solution for the Blues’ current injury crisis
With the transfer window closed, and David contracted to Lille until the end of June, he won’t be able to move teams until the summer.
Considering that head coach Enzo Maresca will be without Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu for a considerable period, many fans will be asking why an approach for the Canadian wasn’t made last month.
