The Chelsea Swap Deal That Has A Genuine Chance Of Happening – And Neither Nkunku Nor Man United Are Involved

Chelsea are interested in signing Brighton’s Joao Pedro, and there is a possibility that a player could be sent in the other direction.

Swap deals are pretty rare in football. A lot needs to go right, with approval from those involved being crucial to such a move, but the clubs also must agree on the value of both players.

There has been a lot of talk about Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho over the past couple of days, but even though the two could swap clubs, it is believed that the deals will be separate, mainly due to the fact that Manchester United are demanding £70m for the latter.

However, journalist Simon Phillips has confirmed Brighton’s interest in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may mean a player swap with Pedro is on the cards.

Chelsea are open to offloading the midfielder

Dewsbury-Hall was signed from Leicester City last summer for £30m, but Brighton were hoping to snap up the player too. The Seagulls only failed to secure his signature due to the Blues’ late intervention.

The 26-year-old was keen to link up with Enzo Maresca again, having worked with him at the King Power Stadium, but he has struggled to hold down a place during his brief stay at Stamford Bridge.

Most of Dewsbury-Hall’s appearances have come in the Conference League and domestic cups. There were even reports that he could be let go in January, with Maresca hinting that he would be prepared to sanction his departure. The player may be open to joining Brighton now in order to get more game time.

Pedro would add depth in two key positions

Chelsea are looking to reinforce their options on the left wing and in the No.10 role. The Brazilian does seem to be a good fit, having played regularly in both positions.

Brighton are expected to demand £60m for Pedro, meaning Maresca’s team could potentially offer Dewsbury-Hall plus £30m to get the deal done.

It should be pointed out that Newcastle and other Premier League teams are also pursuing Pedro, so we shall have to wait and see whether this move will transpire.
