Over the summer Chelsea had reported interest in Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran alongside West Ham, but no transfer was ever completed.
The Blues have not given up their pursuit of the 20-year-old but due to his excellent start to the season, Aston Villa have raised the Columbian’s price tag.
On Wednesday night, Aston Villa recorded a historic Champions League win as they were victorious over Bayern Munich 1-0 at Villa Park.
The winning goal was scored by Jhon Duran who came off the bench for Ollie Watkins before netting the winner in the 79th minute, giving Unai Emery his most memorable Villa win yet.
Duran hasn’t just been good in one game either. Despite spending much of this season coming on from the bench, the 20-year-old has scored six goals in nine games including four in the Premier League.
Many Chelsea fans were left frustrated after the game as the Blues wanted to sign Duran in the summer, and it seems as though it will be much harder to land him now.
According to TeamTalk, Villa has set an £80 million price tag on Duran and Chelsea is still interested.
Blues fans took to X to react to the news…
£80 for Duran is insane

Price has gone from 50 million for someone that don’t start in the Premier League to 80 million for someone that still don’t start. Sure he looks great but the risk is massive

We won’t go for that. We’ll find another, and this time we will trust the scouting

Chelsea pursued Jhon Duran in the summer transfer window
The Blues weren’t just interested in Duran over the summer, but also in January when Mauricio Pochettino was still manager at Stamford Bridge.
However, they did hold talks with Villa in the summer, but a move did not happen due to Chelsea’s ongoing pursuit of Victor Osimhen who they also missed out on.
West Ham United were seemingly close to landing Duran’s signature with the striker at one point believing he was moving to the London Stadium even posting a picture doing the Hammers sign on his social media.
However, no move was completed and Duran is now making a case for Villa to keep hold of him which is clearly what they want to do considering the ramped-up price tag.
