The Blues were leading the race to secure the Frenchman’s signature earlier in January.
However, the battle to snap up Tel has heated up in recent days, with Tottenham keen on signing the player on a permanent basis, while Manchester United and Arsenal are also circling.
Chelsea do have one advantage over the competition. Tel’s club Bayern Munich are interested in Christopher Nkunku.
However, Enzo Maresca’s side still need the approval of both players and Tel is said to be demanding guarantees about game time. If the club can’t offer him assurances, he could go elsewhere.
