Chelsea remain interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens as well as Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, according to reports.
The pair were the subject of enquiries from the Blues during the January transfer window and BBC Sport suggest that they could reignite their pursuit if they do decide to dispense with the services of Jadon Sancho.
Enzo Maresca’s side currently have an obligation to buy the 24-year-old from United at the end of the season for £25m.
However, it has since emerged that the club can still get out of the deal if they pay £5m in compensation. Based on his recent performances, the BBC say it is an option that could be considered.
Neither Gittens nor Garnacho can be signed on the cheap
Dortmund are believed to be holding out for around €100m (£83m) to sell Gittens this summer, although that asking price is likely to drop.
The Bundesliga side are highly unlikely to secure Champions League qualification so they will need to raise funds through player sales and Gittens could well be sacrificed.
United, meanwhile, have issues with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. As Garnacho is classed as homegrown, he would go down as pure profit on the balance sheet so they are open to offloading him for the right price. His valuation is said to be £60m.
Chelsea have also been linked with other wingers
It does appear as if sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart are casting the net pretty wide in their search for potential alternatives to Sancho.
In recent days, reports have claimed that talks have been held with the representatives of Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams. The Spanish international has a €58m (£48m) release clause in his contract so he could be cheaper than both Gittens and Garnacho.
