Former Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna expects Jadon Sancho to have a “great impact” at Chelsea.
The Frenchman played alongside the winger when he was a youngster and, speaking to Paddy Power, he said that while he can’t explain why it went so wrong for him at Manchester United, he is predicting the 24-year-old to excel at Stamford Bridge.
“I trained with Jadon Sancho when he was 16, at Manchester City, and rated him as one of the best talents I’ve seen. He was shining at Borussia Dortmund – the two spells he’s had there, he was probably their best player.”
“I can’t understand why it went wrong at Manchester United – it’s an English team and a country he knew, spoke the language. I know he is very respectful; I don’t know what happened at United. For Chelsea to sign him, I think it’s great and he will be a constant threat. He’s from London as well – he’s back home with his family and his friends, so he has all the ingredients to have a great impact at such a massive club like Chelsea. I’m not surprised to see the impact he is having, because he already had that at 16 at Manchester City.”
Sancho got off to a great start against Bournemouth
The England international was given the player of the match following his performance last weekend. He replaced Pedro Neto at half-time before providing the assist for Christopher Nkunku’s winning goal.
There is a good chance that Sancho will start when Enzo Maresca’s side take on West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea may have got themselves a bargain
While Sancho has initially joined the club on loan until the end of the season, his move will become permanent next summer due to a purchase clause.
It is believed that the Blues will have to pay just £20m upfront, which is considerably less than the £73m that United recruited him for.
