EXCLUSIVE: Gus Poyet Weighs In On Whether Chelsea Should Sign Osimhen or Gyokeres In January

Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet has said whether he thinks the Blues should sign strikers Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres.

The Blues have been linked to both strikers with interest in Victor Osimhen remaining very heavy as the Napoli striker is currently on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray.

Chelsea and Arsenal have both been linked to Viktor Gyokeres who has been impressing in Portugal as he has scored 16 goals in 11 league games for Sporting CP.

Speaking exclusively to ChelseaNews.com (courtesy of BetVictor) about the addition of a striker at Stamford Bridge, Gus Poyet however believes that Chelsea should not sign either striker despite their impressive goal scoring records. He told us: “Seeing how the team is performing now, will I bring someone who may unsettle the team? No. So you need to find the right player, the right character. More importantly, the right character that if he’s coming, he’s going to help and he’s going to improve the team and the competition.

“You [don’t want] someone who is going come and they’re going to mess everything around, you know? So it’s not an easy situation. I think right now maybe going the whole season with the quantity of players that Chelsea go with. They have enough and [let]s see how they finish, then maybe in the summer is a different matter but, in January, I’m not so sure, but again it’s a question for Maresca.”

Chelsea strikers firing this season

The Blues’ goal scoring record under new manager Enzo Maresca has been impressive so far this season as they are the third-highest scoring team in the Premier League.

Striker Nicolas Jackson has been scoring well so far this season as he is on seven goals in 12 games and his midfield teammate Cole Palmer has netted well too scoring seven goals as well.

As Poyet suggests, adding the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and/or Victor Osimhen isn’t necessary for the Blues as things stand and the risk of them not fitting into the team may not be worth taking.
