REPORT: Chelsea Are ‘Prepared To Pay’ £58M To Snap Up Robert Sanchez’s Replacement

Chelsea are “intensifying” their interest in Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, according to reports in the German media.

The Blues are considering potential replacements for current No.1 Robert Sanchez and Bild claim that the Swiss international is the man they want.

Dortmund are not in a position where they can reject bids for their players as they are not expected to have funds from participating in the Champions League next season.

Bild report that Chelsea could be “prepared to pay” up to €70m (£58m) for Kobel and that is not the sort of money that the Bundesliga side could turn down.

Dortmund have already identified the Chelsea target’s successor

Kobel’s club are so certain that he will be leaving Signal Iduna Park in the near future that they have been trawling the market for replacements.

They have earmarked Ajax’s second-choice keeper Diant Ramaj as an option. Ironically, the German has also been on Chelsea’s radar over the past year but you could say that about plenty of other players too.

Will Kobel make the switch before the transfer window closes?

It does seem unlikely that the Blues will be able to get such a sizeable transfer over the line before the deadline on Monday.

Reports suggest that the London club will be reassessing their goalkeeping department at the end of the season so an approach for Kobel may be made then.

That may disappoint fans who were hoping that Sanchez’s time in goal could be coming to an end. However, it must be pointed out that head coach Enzo Maresca does have other options to call upon. Filip Jorgensen arrived from Villarreal last summer and the Dane has looked decent when afforded opportunities. He could be handed the gloves in upcoming matches.
