Chelsea are “closely monitoring” Brighton forward Georginio Rutter, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.
The Frenchman joined the Seagulls for £40m last summer but has only scored 8 goals in 34 appearances. Supporters on X don’t believe he is good enough for the Blues:
Is this a joke?

I hope @FIFAcom and @premierleague bans Chelsea completely from any transfers from Brighton, this is now getting too shady.

Rutter could be targeted to replace Nkunku
The 22-year-old prefers to play as a no.10 or as a support striker rather than being deployed as an out-and-out number nine.
With Christopher Nkunku expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and Joao Felix also unlikely to stay once he returns from his loan spell at AC Milan, it is not a surprise that Chelsea are considering potential replacements.
Why are Chelsea going back to Brighton again?
What seems to irritate fans most is the Blues’ interest in buying another player from the South Coast side. The Seagulls have already paid a sizeable sum to bring Rutter to the club so it stands to reason that they would demand considerably more if they decide to sell him.
Based on the player’s performances so far this campaign, the outlay does not seem justified. There are plenty of other options on the market who would be available for a much lower price.
