Chelsea Linked With Shock Move For £8.6M Rated Portuguese Defender

Chelsea are interested in signing Portimonense centre-back Filipe Relvas, according to Foot Mercato.

The French website claims that the Blues are one of four clubs that have made enquiries about the Portuguese defender.

Monaco are said to be considering Relvas as an alternative to Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, while Wolfsburg and Benfica have  scouted the player too.

The 23-year-old is left-footed and can also play at left-back if required, but with Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile already at the club, it might be the case that he is being targeted as a potential option for affiliate team Strasbourg.

What do Chelsea fans need to know about Filipe Relvas?

The defender came through the youth systems of Espinho and Feirense before becoming part of the senior setup at Portuguese lower-league side Gondomar.

However, Relvas did not make his first-team debut until 2019 when he made the move to Pedras Rubras, playing the full 90 minutes against Vizela in the fifth round of the Portuguese Cup.

Portimonense picked up the centre-half in 2020 where he spent a season with the Under 23s before establishing himself in the senior team during the 21/22 campaign.

Are Chelsea planning to sign more players before the transfer window closes?

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that he wants, at least, two more signings ahead of the next Friday’s transfer deadline.

A backup goalkeeper will be recruited, with Djordje Petrovic expected to arrive from New England Revolution imminently, while a new striker is also being pursued.

Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun was being looked at but it appears the American international will join Monaco. Going for a more versatile forward is being considered as well, with the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson and Lyou’s Bradley Barcola on the club’s radar. Any move for Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus seems to have been ruled out, though, with the Ghanaian set to join West Ham.
