‘If We Get This Done, It Will Be A Massive Upgrade’ ‘Now We’re Talking’ Fans React To Reports That Chelsea Have Made £52M Bid

Chelsea have tabled a €60m (£52m) bid for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Frenchman has been in good form for the Rossoneri this season and it appears the Blues are keen to make him their new number-one. Most fans on Twitter are happy that Chelsea have made an approach for Maignan, although some are not certain about the accuracy of the reports:

A new keeper is one of Chelsea’s top priorities

The Blues are expected to sell Edouard Mendy this summer, with the Senegalese international having refused to sign a new contract. Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future remains up in the air as well.

For that reason, the club have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent months, including Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, Brentford’s David Raya, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Chelsea’s interest in Maignan has, though, come out of the blue and we shall have to wait and see whether more reports link the club with the France international.

Maignan’s performances this season

It should be noted that the 27-year-old’s stats don’t compare that favourably with the other shot-stoppers that the club are believed to be pursuing.

Maignan has the lowest save shot to save ratio (at 69.4%), while Brentford’s David Raya is 77% this season,

When we look at the number of goals they actually conceded compared to post-shot xG against, the Frenchman doesn’t look that impressive, with a -0.7 score, compared to Raya’s +5.0. The only keeper worse out of those mentioned was Onana (-2.7).
