Evan Ferguson is “really happy” at Brighton and the striker is not considering a move away from the Amex, despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column for Caught Offside, Romano said that, while the two teams are keeping tabs on the Republic of Ireland international, there is no prospect that the forward will be leaving the Seagulls in the immediate future:
“We keep seeing Brighton’s Evan Ferguson linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. I can confirm that big clubs like these are following Ferguson, because he’s a top talent, but it’s just normal scouting and monitoring – it would be surprising if they weren’t keeping an eye on an exciting young player like him!”
“There is, however, nothing more concrete to report for the moment. Ferguson only recently signed a new contract with Brighton, so he’s fully focused on them. I’m told he’s really happy at Brighton and sees it as the best place for him to develop now, as we’ve seen with so many other top young players there in recent times.”
Why is there so much hype surrounding Ferguson?
The Irishman is still only 19 years of age, but he has scored 5 goals in his first 11 league appearances this season, including a hat trick against Newcastle.
It follows on from last campaign when Ferguson hit the back of the net 10 times in total, having scored versus Arsenal in only his second Premier League game.
Chelsea are considering alternative striker targets
While Ferguson is clearly on the Blues’ radar, the teenager is by no means at the top of the club’s list of options as they search for a new No.9.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is highly thought of, but the Nigerian international is not expected to be available during the January transfer window so Mauricio Pochettino’s side could well pursue Brentford’s Ivan Toney instead.
