Chelsea are expected to make an “official bid” for Palmeiras winger Estevao Willian, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said the Blues will offer €32m (£27.5m) with another €25m (£21.5m) in add-ons, totalling €57m (£49m).

That is still below Estevao’s release clause so Palmeiras are expected to negotiate with the London club before settling on the final price.

An agreement over personal terms has already been reached, with Chelsea having been locked in talks with the player’s agents in recent weeks.

It means that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are very much in pole position to secure Estevao’s signature ahead of a potential transfer next year when the forward turns 18.

Despite having reached an agreement with the player, though, there is still a danger that the Blues could have the deal hijacked if they don’t wrap up negotiations quickly with Palmeiras.

It is believed that Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keeping tabs on Estevao’s situation, but they have yet to make an formal approach.

The teenager is a winger by trade, preferring to play off the right flank in order to cut in onto his stronger left foot. He first came to prominence playing Brazil at the Under 17 World Cup last year.

Estevao made 5 appearances during the competition, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists before Brazil were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Argentina.

At club level, the forward was given his first-team debut in December, coming on as a substitute during a 1-1 draw against Cruzeiro.

Estevao (who is also known by his nickname “Messinho”), has gone on to make 13 more appearances for Palmeiras since then, scoring his first senior goal in the Copa Libertadores against Uruguay’s Liverpool FC in mid-April.
