Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink thinks that his former club should target Barcelona’s Gavi or Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni if they do decide to sell Enzo Fernandez.

There is still considerable uncertainty around the Argentinian’s future, and speaking about potential replacements, Hasselbaink said:

“If Enzo goes, you would want to get somebody else in as well to bolster that midfield. I would love to see Gavi or Aurelien Tchouameni. Obviously, it’s gonna cost serious money.”

“I don’t know if Chelsea wants to do that, but I would love one of those two players to come in and bolster, because when they come into the dressing room, straight away, it’s a big player that comes in. It gives a message to the other players.”

Are Gavi or Tchouameni attainable targets?

Hasselbaink has picked two players who are unlikely to leave their current teams. Gavi spent most of last season on the treatment table, but he ended the 2025/26 campaign as a regular starter for Barca.

Tchouameni had been linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the summer, but it is now believed that he is close to signing a contract extension at the Bernabeu.

Will Fernandez leave Chelsea?

Manchester City are still in touch with the midfielder’s agent, Javier Pastore, despite deciding not to bid before Chelsea’s deadline last Friday.

The fact that manager Xabi Alonso refused to say categorically that Fernandez is prepared to stay at Stamford Bridge suggests that there may be more twists and turns to come in this transfer saga.

It would not be a surprise if the 25-year-old is the subject of a formal bid from City over the coming days.
