Chelsea and Manchester United are weighing up bids for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, according to reports in Italy.

The Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that Juve want to sell the Serbian international when the next transfer window opens, as they don’t want to lose him for nothing when his contract expires next June.

For that reason, Enzo Maresca’s side and United are “considering” whether to table a bid for Vlahovic, who will be available for a cut price.

The 25-year-old has had a strong start to the season, having scored 4 times in 5 games, adding to his tally of 110 senior career goals.

Chelsea are light of options up front

The decision to sanction Nicolas Jackson’s loan move to Bayern Munich on Deadline Day earlier this month has left the Blues with just a few recognised forwards.

Liam Delap was signed from Ipswich Town fror £30m in the summer, but he has already picked up a serious hamstring injury.

Joao Pedro has led the line ably but many feel that the Brazilian’s best position is as a No.10, rather than as a No.9. That leaves Marc Guiu as the only other option. The Spaniard had to be recalled from a loan spell at Sunderland to make up the numbers.

Vlahovic’s salary is a big problem

The Serbian currently takes home the highest wage in Serie A. He earns £368,000 a week, so you can understand why Juventus have had a difficult time renewing his contract.

Chelsea would face similar issues in terms of agreeing personal terms. While they do have a player in Raheem Sterling who is on a commensurate salary, that contract was offered prior to Clearlake Capital taking control of the club’s transfer policy.

They have been reluctant to offer wages even above £200,000 a week in recent seasons, so if Vlahovic does want a move to Stamford Bridge, he may have to take a substantial pay cut.
