Romano Confirms Striker Is Set To ‘Fly To London’ For Medical As Chelsea Close In On Another Transfer

Santos striker Deivid Washington will “fly to London” to complete a medical before sealing his switch to Chelsea, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The deal is expected to cost €20m (£17m) in total, and Romano says the Brazilian will sign a six-year contract, with an option for a further twelve months:

Deivid is not expected to remain at Stamford Bridge for very long once his move to Stamford Bridge has been finalised.

Reports have indicated that he could join his former Santos teammate Angelo Gabriel in being sent out on loan to Ligue One side Strasbourg, although that has yet to be confirmed.

Deivid does lack experience

Considering that Christopher Nkunku has been sidelined with injury for a few months, there is an argument for keeping Deivid at Chelsea to make up the numbers.

However, the 18-year-old has only made 16 senior appearances in his career so far and it’s probably better for his development if he is loaned out and given more game time elsewhere.

Chelsea are making big moves in the transfer market

Deivid could be just one of three players who complete moves to Stamford Bridge this week. The Blues have finally agreed a fee with Brighton for Moises Caicedo.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are set to pay £100m upfront with another £15m in add-ons. Caicedo will sign an eight-year contract with the London club.

Romeo Lavia is also closing in on a switch to Chelsea. The fee has not been confirmed yet but the Belgian international could cost as much as £55m if reports are to be believed.
