Chelsea have not made any “concrete” steps to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Reports in the Croatian media have claimed that the Blues are prepared to trigger the player’s €60m (£51m) release clause but, writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said that no bid is imminent from Mauricio Pochettino’s side:

“Despite some media reports about Chelsea being interested in Dani Olmo, I’m not aware of anything concrete happening there for now. Still, he will have a release clause this summer worth €60m, which will become active for the first time. At the moment it’s quiet, but let’s see what happens as he’s a talented player.”

It would be a surprise if Chelsea decided to pursue Olmo. He is usually deployed as a no.10 or on either wing; the same positions that Christopher Nkunku plays in.

His injury record this season has also been rather poor, having spent three months on the sidelines with knee and shoulder problems.

Other Premier League clubs are targeting Olmo

In addition to Chelsea, both Manchester City and Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the Spanish international over the past week or so.

Olmo’s release clause means there will be plenty of teams linked with a move for him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are expected to prioritise other positions

The Blues’ no.1 priority for the summer will be to recruit a new no.9, with reports continuing to link the club with the likes of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and Olmo’s Leipzig teammate Benjamin Sesko.

A move for a new centre-back is also likely to be on the cards. Thiago Silva is set to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer when his contract expires, while there continues to be uncertainty over the future of Trevoh Chalobah.
