Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku won’t be short of suitors if he leaves Stamford Bridge this summer, according to reports.
English tabloid The Sun claim that the France international is “pushing for an exit” and there are at least six different clubs trying to secure his services.
It is believed that Nkunku’s former club, Paris Saint-Germain, and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are interested in snapping him up.
However, the majority of teams pursuing his signature are believed to be rival Premier League teams.
Which English clubs are trying to sign Nkunku?
The Sun report that Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and West Ham are all keen on buying the 27-year-old ahead of the next transfer window.
United, in particular, have a longstanding interest, having explored moves for Nkunku last summer and in January, with head coach Ruben Amorim said to be a big admirer. However, at the time, the Red Devils were said to have been put off by Chelsea’s £65m asking price. It remains to be seen whether that valuation will be lowered.
Blues fans would be hoping that he isn’t sold to a division rival but a lot depends on who is willing to pay for the player, who cost £52m when he was brought in from RB Leipzig two years ago.
Are Chelsea looking at replacements?
Bringing in a No.9 is said to be a top priority for the club’s co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart so a like-for-like replacement is unlikely – although there have been tentative links with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers in recent weeks.
In terms of strikers, Chelsea have been looking at Brighton’s Joao Pedro, while RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are all on the club’s radar.
The departure of Nkunku would undoubtedly aid the club’s attempts to bring in high-profile new additions this summer.
