Chelsea will look to offload Christopher Nkunku for just €40m (£34m) this summer, according to reports in the French media.
When it was rumoured in January that Manchester United were interested in the 27-year-old, it was claimed that the Blues would only sell if a team matched their £65m asking price.
However, MaxiFoot says that the London club are prepared to cut their losses on Nkunku, who has had a very disappointing second season at Stamford Bridge.
With Nicolas Jackson sidelined with injury, it was hoped that the France international would step up to the plate but that hasn’t been the case.
Nkunku’s season in numbers
His goal return of 14 goals in 42 appearances doesn’t look that bad on paper, but when you look at his campaign in more detail, you can see where he has let himself down.
Nkunku has only found the back of the net 3 times in the Premier League and he has scored once in all competitions since mid-January.
You could argue his performance level has regressed as the season has gone on.
He was absent from the squad for Chelsea’s win against Fulham
Nkunku was not even named on the bench for the 2-1 win at Craven Cottage on Sunday. Asked about the player’s absence, head coach Enzo Maresca simply said it was a “technical decision”, meaning he wasn’t unavailable due to injury or personal reasons.
It does look like it is the end of the road for the Frenchman with the Blues. There was plenty of fanfare when he signed a couple of years ago but injuries and poor form have played their part in the move simply not working out.
At the moment, there is no firm favourite to snap up Nkunku but a return to Germany or France is a distinct possibility.
