Christopher Nkunku is “considering his future” at Chelsea, according to The Telegraph reporter Jason Burt.
The newspaper’s Chief Football Correspondent claims that sources have told him that the France international is not happy with his playing time, stating he didn’t join the Blues “to sit on the bench.”
Nkunku has started 8 games in all competitions this season but only one of those has come in the Premier League. He was named in the eleven for the opening-day defeat to Manchester City but, since then, he has been restricted to 9 substitute appearances.
The 26-year-old is the club’s top scorer, having scored 10 goals, but head coach Enzo Maresca has effectively made him Nicolas Jackson’s understudy.
Chelsea will consider selling the forward
Burt claims a sale during the January transfer window is a distinct possibility, but the Blues will only “listen to offers” if they receive a bid that matches what they paid for the player 18 months ago.
Nkunku signed from RB Leipzig for £52m in the summer of 2023, with the deal having been agreed several months in advance.
Injuries limited his minutes during his first campaign in English football but he has mostly been fit and available since the start of the 2024/25 season.
Which teams will target Nkunku?
Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the forward by the French media but Burt says the inquiry actually came in the the summer.
There has been a change in management since then so there is no guarantee that the Red Devils are still looking to pursue Nkunku’s signature.
However, considering the player’s pedigree, there are likely to be plenty of suitors in the New Year. It remains to be seen, though, whether any of them will match Chelsea’s asking price.
