TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy wants his former club Chelsea to sign Liverpool No.2 Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Republic of Ireland international made a string of good saves as the Reds kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday night. Speaking about Kelleher after the match, Cundy said:
“Whenever I see Kelleher play he looks top drawer… If you’re a Liverpool fan, I know you’ve got [Giorgi] Mamardashvili coming in, but you don’t want Kelleher to go either. He’s too good to be a number two. I want Kelleher [at Chelsea].”
There was a mixed reaction to the comments about Kelleher among fans on X, with some agreeing with Cundy while others were dead against the move:
Absolutely not.

We should have gone for this guy or Ortega, they are both clear of our current keepers

Comparing Kelleher and Robert Sanchez
If we look at the numbers this season, there isn’t a huge amount of difference between Liverpool’s shot-stopper and Chelsea’s current No.1.
In the Premier League, Kelleher has an 87.5% save ratio, while Sanchez’s is precisely 80%.
When we assess their post-shot xG conceded compared to the actual goals scored against them, the pair are almost identical, with Kelleher (+1.4) slightly ahead of Sanchez (1.0) once again.
Chelsea have signed 2 keepers recently
It should also be pointed out that the Blues paid Villarreal £20.7m for Filip Jorgensen a few months ago, and they also recruited Mike Penders from Genk for £17m.
The former has not managed to dislodge Sanchez as first-choice so far while the latter was loaned back to his previous team until the end of the season.
