2) Raheem Sterling

The winger did have interest from Fulham but the Cottagers tried and failed to sign his teammate, Tyrique George, for £22m instead.

Bayer Leverkusen was also another potential destination but Sterling was said to be keen on staying in London due to his children.

That limitation was clearly an issue. Not many teams can afford his £325,000 a week wages anyway and he will clearly not be interested in moving to Saudi Arabia, Turkey or other countries where the transfer window is still open.

3) David Datro Fofana

The striker had an eventful deadline day. He decided to snub an offer from Scottish champions Celtic to pursue a move to newly-promoted Championship outfit Charlton Athletic.

However, the Addicks did not submit a deal sheet before the 7 pm deadline, so they were not given a 2-hour extension to complete the loan.

Fofana could still secure a permanent exit to one of the countries whose window remains open. In addition to Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Greece and the Netherlands are also options.
