Chelsea ‘Scrambling To Offload’ 5 Members Of The “Bomb Squad” Even After Premier League Window Closes

Chelsea are still hoping to sell or loan out five unwanted players to clubs in countries where the transfer window is still open, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that the Blues are “scrambling to offload” Ben Chilwell, David Datro Fofana, Alex Matos, Harvey Vale and Deivid Washington over the next week or so.

Head coach Enzo Maresca has effectively exiled these players from first-team training, with the group having been named the “Bomb Squad” by the press.

Transfer windows in Turkey, Greece, Belgium and a few others are still open so there is a chance that at least one or two of these names will be offloaded in the next few days.

Chilwell’s situation is the most pressing for Chelsea

The London club don’t want a situation where a player (who is earning £200,000 a week) is sat on the sidelines without game time for several months.

Getting Ben Chilwell off the club’s books is, therefore, the top priority. A loan deal is said to be more likely than a sale at this stage, mainly due to the limited number of clubs he can join, and the fact that he is earning a sizeable wage that few can afford.

Fofana and Washington could also be let go on a temporary basis but there is a strong possibility that Matos and Vale will remain at Stamford Bridge and play for the Under 21s instead.

When are the transfer deadlines?

Turkey’s window is set to remain open until September 13th and that is one that Chelsea fans should be paying close attention to, especially for Chilwell.

Greece’s deadline is a couple of days earlier on September 11th, while Belgium’s window will shut on September 6th, with Austria’s and Croatia’s deadline coming a day before.
