Journalist Makes £50M Transfer Windfall Claim That Could Lead To Chelsea Signing 2 Players This Month

Chelsea could sell several players in order to raise £50m for new signings this month, according to reports.

Writing for Football.London, Blues correspondent Bobby Vincent says that, while the club are “happy” with their current squad, things could change if the likes of Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Axel Disasi were to leave Stamford Bridge.

Chilwell and Chukwuemeka are not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans having rarely featured for Chelsea this season, while it is believed that Disasi could be let go if the club receive a good enough offer.

Vincent suggests that the money brought in from their departures could be used to finance incomings for “one or two players” before the end of the January transfer window.

Will Chelsea be able to offload all three players?

The situation is slightly different for each of the players mentioned. Ben Chilwell is earning £190,000 a week and he is said to be unwilling to take a pay cut.

There is a growing possibility that the Blues will be forced into terminating his contract and letting him leave on a free if clubs can’t afford his salary.

When it comes to Chukwuemeka, the midfielder is thought to be more open to leaving in order to get first-team football, but Chelsea will likely want more than the £20m that they paid Aston Villa for the player. In terms of Disasi, a lot will depend on whether any team will table a bid for the centre-back this month.

Who could the club sign in January?

We have written an article detailing Chelsea’s most likely targets here. In terms of the positions that the club would like to strengthen; a new centre-half would be top of the agenda.

Finding another right-back may also be considered, due to the fitness problems that Reece James has suffered from. Any move for a striker, though, may have to wait until the summer.
