Pundit Claims Chelsea Could Make “Huge Bid” For 15 Goal Striker But He Could Be A Better Fit For Arsenal

Ex-Chelsea player Pat Nevin says he can see his former club making a move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak during the January transfer window.

The Swedish international has been in excellent form this season, having found the net on 15 occasions in all competitions and, speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Nevin suggested an approach from the Blues is possible, although he feels London rivals Arsenal could be a potential destination too:

“I would not be surprised if Chelsea made a huge bid for Alexander Isak this January if they get any sort of hint that he is available.”

“Chelsea would love him. Having said that, I think he would be the best possible fit for Arsenal and if I was him I would be looking at that. Style-wise and technique-wise, can you imagine him playing in front of Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard, it would be scary.”

Isak’s asking price is too high

Reports over the past couple of weeks have suggested that Newcastle would demand upwards of £150m for the 25-year-old. They are not under any pressure to sell with the forward‘s contract expiring in 2028.

Putting the finances in place to make such a mammoth offer this month seems unlikely, especially with Chelsea reportedly in the process of raising funds by selling fringe players.

Chelsea have other priorities

Based on the latest rumours, it appears that the club’s top target in January will be a centre-back. Wesley Fofana’s latest injury setback means that head coach Enzo Maresca is keen on recruiting a replacement.

Any approach for a new No.9 is likely to be dependent on Christopher Nkunku’s future. The France international is said to be keen on leaving Stamford Bridge to get more game time but he hasn’t formally requested a transfer at this stage.
