“The One Who Stands Out” – Pundit Urges Chelsea To Sign 39 Cap Defender Who Could Provide Competition For Chilwell

Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock has backed Chelsea to sign Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson as cover for Ben Chilwell.

Warnock, who is a former Premier League fullback himself, said that the American possesses all the attributes to be a starter for the Blues on the left-hand side of defence; a position where manager Mauricio Pochettino could do with having more options due to Chilwell’s injury problems:

“The one who stands out for me, straight away, is Antonee Robinson at Fulham. He is your attack-minded fullback. Could he do a job at Chelsea? I believe he could. I think he is a very good player.”

“What you are also getting with that is that you are getting consistency. I feel for Reece James and Ben Chilwell so much because I hate seeing players injured. It’s horrible.”

Could Robinson make the move to Stamford Bridge?

The United States international, who has been capped 39 times by his country, has been tentatively linked with a transfer across London during the January transfer window.

A couple of reports have mentioned Robinson as a possible target, with Pochettino said to be in the market for a new left-back. However, a move at the end of the season is probably more likely at this stage.

A swap deal using a Chelsea player could be considered

There is one scenario that could lead to Robinson making the switch to the Blues this month. Fulham are known to be very interested in signing Armando Broja.

With that being the case, there is a chance that a player exchange could be proposed. However, it remains to be seen how willing Fulham would be to part ways with Robinson.

He is currently their first-choice left-back and they may not be able to sign a replacement in time before Thursday night’s deadline.
