Chelsea have reignited their interest in Anthony Gordon, according to CaughtOffside.com.
The 23-year-old was originally linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge prior to his switch to Newcastle at the beginning of 2023.
However, just eighteen months later, it appears that Gordon could be on the move again, with the Magpies seemingly looking to raise more cash from selling players.
Caught Offside report that the England international is “wanted” by the Blues and Manchester United, in addition to Liverpool, who are still monitoring the player’s situation.
It has been claimed that the Reds entered negotiations about signing Gordon last week but no agreement was reached after they refused to include Jarell Quansah in a part-exchange deal.
Chelsea are seeking an alternative for Olise
Enzo Maresca’s side are very much still in the market for a winger, having lost out to Bayern Munich for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise last month.
The Blues were confident of signing the Frenchman but it is believed that his wage demands ultimately led to the move collapsing.
With that being the case, the club’s pursuit of Gordon is not a complete surprise, especially as the recruitment department considered signing him in the past.
How much will Gordon cost?
Caught Offside believe that Newcastle will demand around £70m to £75m for the player, but that figure is debatable as the Magpies are no longer in a position where they have to sell.
They raised £65m from the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson before the end of June, which means the club are unlikely to consider selling Gordon on the cheap.
Some fans may argue that £70m for Gordon is already too expensive but, as he is one of Newcastle’s key players, they will be extremely reluctant to lose him.
