Chelsea are ahead of Monaco in the race to sign Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, according to reports in Italy.
The newspaper, the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), claims that the Blues are currently in “pole position” to secure the 29-year-old’s signature. Anguissa still has two years left on his contract, but Napoli are said to be willing to let him leave at the end of the season. Supporters on X have been left scratching their heads as to why their club are interested in the player:
Is this a joke? He’s way to slow to play in the premier league

Anguissa struggled during his last spell in English football
It should be noted that the Cameroon international spent four years with Fulham between 2018 and 2022. However, Anguissa was sent out on loan for two of those seasons, having failed to make a lasting impression during his time at Craven Cottage.
Considering that he will turn 30 in November, it seems very strange that Chelsea are pursuing someone of his age profile. Their usual policy is to pursue players in the early stages of their careers.
Chelsea have a promising midfielder waiting in the wings
Although he is a different type of player, Andrey Santos looks set to make it big over the next few years. He has been in outstanding form out on loan for Strasbourg, having scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists this season.
You’d think that head coach Enzo Maresca would be hoping to give the Brazilian more opportunities rather than blocking that path by signing a player like Anguissa.
