Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes his former club have secured Alejandro Garnacho’s services for a great price.

The Argentinian was brought in from Manchester United for £40m before the transfer window closed and Hasselbaink thinks Garnacho is better value for money than the amounts that Anthony Elanga and Alexander Isak were sold for this summer:

“They wanted four wingers and he is the fourth one coming in. He’s exciting, and has got lots of Premier League experience. He’s direct and quick, he scores goals and also provides assists.”

“He’s got lots of games in the Premier League, and they only paid £40million for him. If you look at Elanga or Isak and a lot of other players, the big money that they have gone for, Chelsea have done some really great business for Garnacho.”

Newcastle paid £55m for Elanga, while Liverpool splashed out a British record £125m on Isak.

Garnacho has yet to prove his worth

It will take the 21-year-old some time to get up to speed, having not had a full preseason but his first few performances have not set the world alight.

After two substitute appearances against Brentford and Bayern Munich, Garnacho was handed his first start by head coach Enzo Maresca versus Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

It is fair to say that the forward didn’t pull up any trees and it is hoped that he can improve on that display in the future.

One of the biggest criticisms levelled at Garnacho is that his ego has got in the way of his development – essentially, he thinks he’s better than he actually is.

Maresca has shown he can unlock talent in young players, but he doesn’t suffer fools gladly, so the player will have to grow up fast if he wants to have a good career with the Bluees.
