Ornstein Makes “Deadline Day” Prediction As He Claims Chelsea Have Made 2 Bids To Secure 9th Summer Signing

There is a good chance that Chelsea will have to wait until “deadline day” to seal the signature of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.

Writing in the Transfer DealSheet column, Ornstein said that the Blues have already had “a couple of bids” rejected for the Argentinian international.

However, Garnacho’s move to Stamford Bridge could still be finalised before the transfer window closes at 7pm next Monday.

A lot hinges on whether the two teams can find a compromise on the asking price. Enzo Maresca‘s side were originally hoping to do a deal for £30m, but United have been holding out for a fee closer to £50m.

Jackson’s departure could prove to be important

The agent of striker Nicolas Jackson has stated that the Senegalese international’s future could be decided within the next “48 hours”.

Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with the striker over the past few days, while both Newcastle and Aston Villa are also in the mix.

Chelsea reportedly want to offload Jackson on a permanent basis or, at the very least, a loan with an obligation to buy. If his departure is finalised, it would free up the necessary funds for Garnacho.

Chelsea have signed 8 players this summer

Since the transfer window opened on June 16th, the Blues have wrapped up deals for Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estevao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez. The latter two have already left to join Strasbourg on loan.

Garnacho’s arrival would strengthen Maresca’s options on the left hand side. Gittens is currently the only player in the first-team squad who is a natural in that position, although Pedro Neto did start there against West Ham on Friday night.
