Chelsea To Take Their Time Over Rooney

Chelsea and their manager Jose Mourinho have both shown a keen interest in signing Wayne Rooney from United this summer, as the Portuguese manager identifies him as the ideal man to spearhead his attack this season. Rooney’s exit from United almost looks possible given his refusal to celebrate with his team-mates and the aloof nature he showed during United’s 4-1 win at Swansea.

Chelsea have tried their best in signing him already but United boss David Moyes has been pretty adamant about his refusal to let their talisman leave Old Trafford this summer. The Blues made two bids to test Moyes’ resolve over Rooney, but have been rebuffed in each of their attempts by the Red Devils. What is expected now is Chelsea’s third bid as Mourinho looks to firm up his interest as we enter the business end of the transfer window.

It is open till September 2, and this is the time when all the clubs frantically try to secure their targets before the window slams shut. Chelsea have been active this summer, and are expected to be so right until the very last day of the window as they try to put together the finishing touches for Rooney’s deal.

Mourinho was asked about his plans for Rooney’s third bid, and he said that he will wait until Monday night before making a bid for him. United are set to host Chelsea on Monday, and Mourinho believes that making any bid right before the game would be unethical on his part. The Evening Standard reports him as saying, “I don’t want Chelsea to do it before we go there,”

“Everybody in the club, in the board, they agree with me. We share that opinion. There is (a) time to do things.”

“I think this period, by the ethical point of view, is a period where we’re going to be quiet and thinking just about that game.”

With United now having a certain period around when to expect Chelsea’s bid, do you see United successfully fending off their third attempt too?
