Chelsea To Sign Mata Replacement In Youngster Mohamed Salah From FC Basel

Chelsea have already signed two new players despite the club’s pre-transfer period statements which strongly suggested no changes will occur during the winter window. After letting Mata join Premier League rivals, Manchester United, Mourinho decided to bring in 21 year old winger, Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian international who has been playing for FC Basel since 2012 turned down Liverpool to join the Stamford Bridge side. According to the Daily Mail, Salah cost Chelsea £11million, money which came from the profit the Blues made from selling Juan Mata.

Salah who scored twice against Chelsea during the Champions League group clashes announced his new destination on Twitter right after signing the deal. It was an unexpected turn of events considering the fact that Liverpool were favorites to reach an agreement with the Egyptian. It seems though that Mourinho played an important part in convincing the youngster to move to London. The Blues’ financial power also made a difference as Salah opted to make more money rather than to be sure of a spot on the first team.

The 21 year old will hopefully help Chelsea score more often considering his attacking skills are what brought him to Stamford Bridge. Mourinho is known for being able to revive players who go through though periods which is exactly the case with Salah. Although extremely talented, he only managed to score 4 times this season which is not that great for a player of his profile.
